To be considered for Upward Bound, students are required to meet one of the following criteria:
They will be the first in their family to graduate from college.
They are from a low- to moderate-income household.
In addition, two-thirds of the Lyndon Upward Bound roster must meet both requirements.
Students and parents/guardians complete the application form. Required information includes:
Student Information
Parent/Guardian Information
Family Financial Information, including a copy of the family's most recent federal income tax form
A written personal statement on why the student wishes to join the program and what their plans are for after high school graduation
The application includes a Transcript Release, which gives the student's school guidance counselor permission to share test scores, report cards, and high school transcripts with Upward Bound. They will also be contacted by the program for a Counselor Recommendation
A Teacher Recommendation form will be given to the student's Math, English, or Science teacher to complete.
After receiving and reviewing an application and recommendations, an Upward Bound staff member will set up a time to meet with the student at their school to discuss their interest in the program.
An Upward Bound staff member may meet with the student's family at their home or school to discuss the program in depth and answer any questions the family has.
